San Francisco’s Museum of Modern Art is turning the big seven five and they’re celebrating in a big way. They have a number of exhibitions focusing on the artists, pioneers and visionaries that brought the museum to life.
If you live in San Francisco, you might have seen the advertisements for the Muse Campaign. If you haven’t yet, you will definitely notice them now. SFMOMA’s Muse Campaign is a celebration of the connection between people, art and the different ways one sees art. It focuses on creative people in the bay area who act as muses in their community. The campaign plays with words by highlighting the “UM” in MUSEUM as if it were a pause before these individuals express their musings. My personal favorite, posted in the Castro Muni Station, is Peaches Christ with a sculpture of Micheal Jackson and Bubbles and it says, “MUSE UM, you worship your idols, I worship mine.”
Along with their Muse Campaign, SFMOMA is throwing themselves a birthday party! Guess what? You’re invited! On May 14, 2010 the celebration starts with a dinner on the Rooftop Garden honoring special guests, donors and collectors. The price tag for the dinner is a little much for the average art appreciating San Franciscan. Tickets starts at a cool $10,000. Never fear! The party does not end here. For a good time that is a little easier on the wallet, come to the Birthday Bash after the dinner. It starts at 9 p.m. and tickets $150 for general admission and $125 for SFMOMA members. There will be cocktails and treats along with a performance by Brazilian Girls.
Check out the exhibits all through out this year relating to the 75th anniversary at the SFMOMA website.
